If you haven’t chosen a “Word of the Year” yet, then you need one asap!
A word of the year is an easy way to set your intentions for the upcoming year with just one word.
To me setting a yearly goal is so broad and resolutions can change, become irrelevant, or even be forgotten after the first mont (if you’re anything like me). Having ONE word to focus on is a simple and constant reminder that will stay with you throughout the whole year to keep you on track.
But, first things first, grab a cup of coffee (it always helps my creativity to flow).
Next, start jotting down your intentions for the year. An intention is simply a guiding principle for how you want to be, live, and show up in the world. Then narrowing down your intentions into a single “word of the year” can set you in the right direction and give “theme” for the year ahead.
3 years ago I was super unorganized every day. I’d hurry from one task to another and never accomplish much. I felt like I was trying to “do it all” and was completely overwhelmed and if I didn’t change my habits, I’d never hit the big goals I set for myself, my family, my team, etc… So, I started writing down my intentions (and putting them somewhere I’d see daily).
For 2021 I actually chose 2 words. My first word (or really just my overall theme for the year) is “YES”!! I’m going to say yes to more opportunities and things that stretch me and take me out of my comfort zone; instead of saying no, just because that was the safer way out. I chose that word after I started reading “The Year of Yes by Shondra Rhymes. Her stories and emotional connection to saying “no” resonated with me so much and inspired me to want to do more.
My actual “word of the year” is going to be “EMBRACE”. I was having a hard time narrowing down my own intentions into one word, so I turned to this “Word of the Year” generator for some inspiration. The word randomly chosen for me was EMBRACE, which was a compliment to my already established YES mentality. By saying yes to new opportunities and taking on new challenges, I will EMBRACE both and look forward to all that will come in 2021.
I hope shuffling through your intentions and choosing a word makes the rest of your year a little more AWESOME!
